Frans Soenen

So Frans, how did you get into dancing?

During my childhood, I would always follow my cousins to family parties, anniversaries, graduations and at those times I wasn’t a good dancer. A few years later I met my life & dancer partner Sarah Amaro and ended up taking our first dance class together.

Our first class was a Kizomba class with José N’dongala, we didn’t think of taking it professional until later when we joined the Kizombalove Academy.

What projects are you currently working on?

We are working on some video projects with our students and continuing our projects with the avengers’ team. We are also working on intensive weekend projects in order to offer the Kizomba & Semba addicts a different experience from what they generally have in festivals.

What’s been the most memorable moment of your journey as a dancer so far?

There was a day where Calo Pascoal & Bonga came to Brussels to perform during a fundraising project for Africa. Bonga wanted to meet the people who would dance during his performance. So during the day we went to his place and found him to be a very nice person, spending all afternoon discussing and laughing about everything and nothing.

And later in the evening, we performed with Calo Pascoal and Bonga in front of a very nice crowd. That moment is one out of plenty other good memories I’ve experienced during this last years.

What advice would you give to up & coming dancers looking at you for inspiration?

Try to be the best version of yourself by improving your skills. Dare, try and don’t be afraid to not be good enough!! I was also a beginner at a certain time in my journey, Sarah & I took our time to learn all the steps well.

So be patient and take the time to learn everything properly and master everything in details if you are truly passionate.

What can we expect from you for the rest of 2018?

New videos are going to be released. Some projects are going to be launched for the end of the year and next year with the Avengers team. Teachers training! A big party will happen in the second part of the year and we will continue travel around the world.
